Bio

Blade Thomson earned his first full Super Rugby contract in 2013 after being a member of the Hurricanes Wider Training Squad in 2012.

Thompson joined the Hurricanes from home province Taranaki, but he emerged from Poverty Bay as a member of the Gisborne Boys’ High School First XV and as part of the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ team in 2008 - winning the Bronze Boot award as the Player of the Match in that year’s schoolboy Test against Australia.

He made his one and only appearance of the year against the Crusaders in the last game of the season.

Thomson was a member of the New Zealand U20 team that won the 2010 IRB Junior World Championship in Argentina.

He is also a former New Zealand Secondary Schools volleyball representative.

In 2013 Thomson was Taranaki’s Player of the Year, the No. 8 playing every minute of every game for the amber and blacks.
