Communications & Content Lead

The Hurricanes Rugby Club was founded in 1996 as the Wellington Hurricanes for the inaugural Super 12 season. Based in Upper Hutt, the Hurricanes primary home ground is SKY Stadium in Wellington, but covers the region including Horowhenua-Kapiti, Manawatu, Whanganui, Wairarapa Bush, Wellington, Hawkes Bay & Poverty Bay. 

The Hurricanes won the Super Rugby Championship in 2016 and were finalists in 2006 and 2015. In 2021, the Hurricanes Poua team was added to the club for the inaugural Women's Super Rugby Aupiki Competition. 

Communications & Content Lead 

We are looking to fill the soon-to-be vacant Communications Manager position to deliver and implement the Hurricanes’ Communications Strategy under the evolved title of ‘Communications & Content Lead’. Reporting to our GM of Commercial & Marketing, you will grow awareness and affinity to the Hurricanes brand, people and organisation and ultimately Unite & Excite fans of the Hurricanes, Hurricanes Poua and Hurricanes Development teams. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Hurricanes’ overarching communications strategy
  • Lead the content team and oversee the alignment and distribution of all social and digital communications – including marketing and commercial requirements
  • Grow awareness and affinity to the Hurricanes story and brand in order to broaden our audience base
  • Building media engagement plans
  • Facilitating interviews and exposure for our club and people

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced Communications manager, with a proven track record in successfully developing and delivering a communications strategy. Experience in sport is not essential, but having an interest in sports and some understanding of rugby will be beneficial.
