Auckland fullback/wing Brent Ward gave three campaigns of sterling service to the Hurricanes between 2003-2005, first drafted into the side on the strength of four NPC matches at fullback for Auckland in 2002.

He answered his call up in his debut year in 2003 by scoring five tries, in seven matches on the left wing and another four coming off the bench. Replacing the departed Christian Cullen at fullback, Ward scored eight Super 12 tries in 2004, the most by a New Zealand franchise player that year.

He crossed the line twice more in 2005, before joining the Blues for the 2006 Super 14 having scored 15 tries in 36 games for the Hurricanes. He was also a reliable goal kicker, and was the leading points scorer in the 2005 NPC, with 137 points and he brought up 500 first class points whilst playing for Auckland in 2006. In 2007 he joined his third Super 14 franchise, spending a season with defending champions the Crusaders.

Ward also made the New Zealand Universities side in 2000 and 2002. He won the 2007 Air New Zealand Cup with Auckland before moving at the end of season to France to play for Paris Metro Racing.

He said au revoir at the conclusion of the 2009/10 French Top 14 season for a move back to Auckland to play in the ITM Cup in 2010. His Super Rugby career resumed in 2011 when he was drafted into the Crusaders as injury cover. He played a full ITM Cup season for Auckland in 2011.
