Justin Wilson
Halfback, Fullback
Bio
Australian Born utility back and New Zealand Sevens and Maori representative Justin Wilson was called into the Hurricanes in 2005 as a replacement player for the injured fullback pair of Shannon Paku and Brent Ward, making one appearance off the bench against the Crusaders in the last round robin match of the season.
Wilson’s short stint with the Hurricanes was just one component of a rich and varied career that started with the Western Australian state side and then with the Junior Kiwis rugby league side.
Switching back to rugby, Wilson played 35 games for Bay of Plenty between 1998-2000, where he was first selected from for the New Zealand Sevens team in 1999. In 2000 he made his international fifteens debut for New Zealand A, playing in two matches on their European tour against Wales A and French Universities.
This was followed by inclusion in the Blues in 2001 where he made six appearances, followed by two seasons in Auckland in 2001 and 2002, and three in Wellington between 2003-2005, capped once for the Lions against Waikato. Whilst playing out of Wellington, Wilson made the New Zealand Maori side in 2003 and in 2004, scoring two tries in the Maori win against Canada in 2004, and continued to make the Sevens side in each of those years.
Continuing his colourful career, Wilson moved to his fourth province Hawke’s Bay in 2006, again featuring in the Magpies backline in 2007.
He was playing for the El Salvador club in Spain in 2009. Moving into coaching at the same time, he was coaching in Ireland in 2010 and in Melbourne, Australia from 2011.
