Black Fern Prop, Krystal Murray Signs on with the Hurricanes
Black Ferns prop Krystal Murray has signed with the Hurricanes Poua ahead of the 2023 SKY Super Rugby Aupiki competition.
The Northland prop, who can also be equally dynamic as a hard running No 8, is a double international, playing for the Kiwi Ferns rugby league team at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
Murray played a key role off the bench for the victorious Black Ferns who edged England 34-31 in a gripping Rugby World Cup final at Eden Park last weekend.
Murray said she was excited to head to link up with the Hurricanes Poua.
“Following on from the Rugby World Cup, I’m excited to join the Hurricanes and get stuck into Super Rugby Aupiki.
“After a couple of seasons with the Blues, a new challenge and opportunity to work with a new set of coaches and players is something I’m looking forward to,” said Murray.
Hurricanes Poua Head Coach, Victoria Grant said that Murray would bring versatility and x-factor to the Poua’s front pack.
“Krystal had an amazing campaign with the Rugby World Cup in the Black Ferns.
“She was a vital part of their team and bringing fire power in the second half. Looking at her ball skills and what she can bring outside of her key role as a prop, her skillset is really something of a playmaker, first-five, second-five sort of player, so we’re really excited about that,” said Grant.
Murray, or Muzz or Muzza as she’s better known, was Northland’s top women’s points scorer in the 2021 Farah Palmer Cup, with her outstanding form leading to her selection to the Black Ferns that same year. She made her Black Ferns debut off the bench against England in Exeter in 2021.
Super Rugby Aupiki kicks off Saturday 25 February, with the Hurricanes Poua taking on the Chiefs Manawa in the competition opener at Levin Domain.
