The Hurricanes have surged into the Investec Super Rugby semifinals with a 41-0 win over the Sharks at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
Coach Chris Boyd's team became the first team Super Rugby playoff history to keep an opponent scoreless in out-scoring the South Africans six tries to none.
In wet and wild conditions halfback TJ Perenara and first five Beauden Barrett put on a masterclass of how to play rugby in wet conditions and the travel-wary Sharks had few answers.
In front of the two in-form Hurricanes halves props Loni Uhila and Ben May, both starting for the first time this season, led the pack from the front from the opening whistle and the points came quickly.
Uhila, James Marshall, Jason Woodward, Vaea Fifita, Perenara and Brad Shields all scored tries in front of 17,895 fans who had braved the conditions to support their team.
The Hurricanes led 13-0 at halftime thanks to a powerful Uhila burst and a well worked scrum move that saw Perenara combine to put Marshall over in the corner.
After the break the home team let loose. Woodward and Fifita both finished off counterattacks, both involving some magical moments from Perenara, who scored himself in between times.
Shields topped off the night on the fulltime whistle. Barrett's tactical kicking was sublime throughout and he finished with three conversions and a penalty on a night when goal kicking was challenging to say the least.
The result means the Hurricanes will play one of the three remaining New Zealand teams in the competition the Highlanders, Chiefs or Crusaders depending on results overnight.
Scorers:
Hurricanes 41 (Loni Uhila, James Marshall, Jason Woodward, Vaea Fifita, TJ Perenara, Brad Shields tries; Beauden Barrett pen, 3 con, Jason Woodward con) Sharks 0. HT. 13-0.
