The Hurricanes have beaten the Melbourne Rebels 33-10 during a wet and wild Investec Super Rugby warm up match at Harlequins Oval.
Despite awful conditions that reduced the playing field to a bog, the Hurricanes managed to slide in for five tries including a brace to utility back Wes Goosen.
Lock Michael Fatialofa, wing Jason Woodward and midfielder Vince Aso scored the visitor's other tries with the Rebels crossing for two of their own in a match that was played in torrential rain from the kick off.
The match represented a milestone for Hawke's Bay loose forward Hugh Renton and Wellington midfielder Shaun Treeby, who both made their Hurricanes debut.
Coach Chris Boyd said it was a good team performance in tough conditions and pleasing to come away without any injuries.
Conditions dictated a low scoring first half as both sides did their best to come to terms with the slippery ball and not surprisingly the scores were tied 0-0 at halftime.
Things changed after the break when Goosen intercepted a Rebels pass and dashed 70 metres to score under the posts to put his side up 7-0.
The Rebels responded less than a minute later when Tom English crossed in the corner to cut the margin to two points, but the Hurricanes were starting to gain ascendancy.
Goosen scored his second try after hooker James O'Reilly broke through the and lock Michael Fatialofa and centre Vince Aso scored within minutes of each other as the score ballooned out to 26-5.
Siliva Siliva struck back for the home side from a maul, but the Hurricanes had the final say on the stroke of full-time when former Rebel Jason Woodward scored in the corner.
The Hurricanes now switch their full focus to the resumption of their Super Rugby campaign against the Blues at Westpac Stadium in Wellington next Saturday (July 2).
