Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd will have plenty of time to take notes before his team is pitched into the inaugural Global Rugby Tens in Brisbane next February.
The defending Investec Super Rugby champion Hurricanes will be the last team in action on day one of the tournament at Suncorp Stadium on February 11 when they play the Western Force at 4:01pm.
The Hurricanes next match on opening day will be a New Zealand derby against the Highlanders the opening day - a crossover match between Pools C and D that pits the Super Rugby champions of 2015 and 2016 against each other.
Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd said he was happy to be able to take in the early matches from the sidelines.
"It's going to be an interesting exercise for all concerned and no doubt it's going to take a few matches to get a feel for what each team brings to the tournament. When you factor in the Brisbane heat then having a late start probably isn't a bad thing.
"We are expecting all of the teams to be very competitive and the Force and Highlanders will no doubt provide quality opposition."
The Hurricanes round out pool play on Day 2 with a match against French glamour club Toulon - currently the home of former Hurricanes hero Ma'a Nonu.
The tournament will see 13 of the game's best club teams, plus the Samoan national team, come together for the world's premier club Tens tournament.
The inaugural tournament kicks off with the first match at midday on Saturday.
Featuring a similar structure to the 15-a-side game but with more space on field for players to showcase their skills, Tens rugby is the perfect format for what will be a hugely entertaining launch of the Super Rugby season in Brisbane for at least the next four years.
Day two begins at 10.00am with knockout play starting with the first quarterfinal at 12.48pm and ending with the grand final at 5.40pm.
