The Hurricanes are saying farewell to a franchise veteran and are welcoming his nephew to the team.
"After 20 years on the field I felt like it was time to step down and make way for some fresh blood," the Captain said this week. "When I was first selected in 1998 it was a special moment in my life and I have supported the team for the last 20 years."
"The Hurricanes is a big family and growing all the time, I thought I knew who would be perfect for this job and rang my nephew Captain Hurricane Junior, he was so excited and joined the Hurricanes camp over the Christmas break" Captain Hurricane explained.
Captain Hurricane Junior, clean-shaven and fighting fit is in the shape of his life after training the house down during the off season with the team.
Captain Hurricane Junior is fitter, faster and more agile and is looking forward to showing off some new skills on Opening Night against the Crusaders at Our House, Westpac Stadium on Saturday March 10 when he arrives by helicopter just before kick off.
"My salute is crisper, my cape has clearly made me faster, and I've spent a bit of time with Vince Aso working on my dab too. Overall I can't wait to get to know our young fans." said Captain Hurricane Junior.
The new design, completed by local artist Nathan Corbett, involved fan consultation as well as a focus group with Brooklyn Primary School children. 11 year old pupil Sophie Corry was pleased with the new design. "We wanted Captain Hurricane Junior to appear a bit more approachable. The new one looks confident and cheerful." While Jarvis Neil (11) thought he needed to be more modern. "The new one seems more friendly and better for kids".
