Dinner with Colesy, Bam and Brad?

Canes Mini Teams compete for members

Hurricanes players are providing fans with some extra incentives to get in behind their team in 2018 after being issued with a Mini Team challenge to help the club sell season memberships.

Hurricanes fans who buy a 2018 membership this week (before midnight Sunday) will go in the draw for the date night with Dane Coles, Brad Shields and Ben May who will shout dinner at popular Wellington restaurant The Green Man to the tune of $250.

The Hurricanes' Mini Teams have become part of the club's folklore since assistant coach Richard Watt started the tradition in 2011 and the various competitions between the four factions - the Masports, Green Lanterns, Mavericks, and Pirates - have become ingrained in the culture of the squad (Remember the beach flag race between TJ Perenara and Cory Jane).

This time around the Mini Teams have decided to focus their challenge on the fans and Coles (Colesy), Brad and May (Bam), all members of the Masports, have got the ball rolling with their dinner date.

"There is a lot of competition between our Mini Teams and we do take it quite seriously," Shields said. "You definitely don't want to lose and when we heard the latest challenge we decided to add a little incentive. It will also be a good excuse to mix with some of our fans and give something back to them by shouting them a feed."

The Green Lanterns, Mavericks and Pirates will be watching with interest as they will follow up the Masports initative with their own unique members offers in coming weeks.
