The Hurricanes have left Brisbane with five tries and five competition points after a 34-15 win over the Reds at Suncorp Stadium.
The Hurricanes started in Brisbane where Cyclone Debbie had left off, with a hiss and a roar as wing Julian Savea and halfback and captain TJ Perenara wasted little time in starting the try scoring fun.
With fullback Jordie Barrett, taking over the kicking from his brother Beauden for the night, nailing both conversions the visitor's were up 14-0 in just 17 minutes and looking likely every time they got possession.
However, the Reds and the TMO had other ideas.
Referee Angus Gardner initially awarded three tries to the Hurricanes - Beauden Barrett in the 24th minute, then Mark Abbott (53rd) and finally Perenara (56th) - only to have to rule them out on the advice of the TMO
All three decisions were spot on with Barrett knocking on, Abbott putting his heel in touch, and Perenara failing to touch the ball when taking a quick tap penalty.
To make things tougher, second five Ngani Laumape found himself in the sinbin after being judged to have made a late tackle, and the Reds roared back with two tries of their own to close the scores to 14-12.
The Hurricanes showed their composure to put their setbacks to the side and scored three second half tries to wing Vince Aso, and both the Barrett brothers.
"We're delighted to get five points. We had to leave it pretty late to get that bonus point, which was a little bit stressful for the coaches, but we hung in there," Assistant coach John Plumtree said.
Aso's try came via an assist from No.8 Ardie Savea, who would later leave the field with a calf injury.
Plumtree said initial reports were that the injury was not serious.
"We think he might have a bit of a calf strain. He's walking around here. He's a bit uncomfortable but I don't think it's anything major, without having too much detail from the medical staff," Plumtree said after the match. "We were a pretty worried about him, obviously, but it doesn't look like it's anything major."
The victory was marked by two special milestones in the Hurricanes camp with Pita Ahki making his debut for the club, and prop Chris Eves achieving his 50th cap.
It was the team's fourth from five matches this season and sets them up for a big match against the Waratahs at Westpac Stadium on Friday.
