Dynamic forwards Vaea Fifita and Loni Uhila will be determined to show that tens rugby isn't just about the backs when they lead the charge for the Hurricanes at the Brisbane Global Tens in 2017. 

Unveiled today as a showpiece event to mark the start of the Super Rugby season, the Brisbane Global Tens will be played at Suncorp Stadium on February 11 and 12, 2017 - and is set to become a fixture on the rugby calendar for at least the next four years.

The 2017 tournament features all 10 New Zealand and Australian Super Rugby clubs plus French powerhouse Toulon, Japan's Robbie Deans-coached Panasonic Wild Knights, South Africa's Blue Bulls and the Samoan national team.

"I've been lucky enough to play at the Hong Kong 10s in previous years and it's a great game," Fifita said. "It provides an opportunity to express yourself with a little bit of extra space on the field, but is close enough to fifteens that you can't afford not to put some focus into the set piece.

"It's exciting to think about the atmosphere there will be with teams from Europe and the Pacific Islands. The game is very open so it should be great for the fans."

Uhila - who is fast attaining cult status at the Hurricanes for his explosive performances this season - is also keenly looking forward to the event, which sees teams chocked full of the game's biggest stars competing in ten-a-side matches over 10-minute halves in pool play and knockout matches.

"As a tight forward, playing tens appeals as a really an exciting prospect," Uhila said. "There is obviously a bit more open spaces around the park, but it doesn't compromise the importance of the set piece.

"I haven't played 10-a-side before, but the concept is awesome and with teams from around the world it should be an entertaining event."
