Former All Black Cory Jane will waste little time getting back into competitive rugby with the Hurricanes after being named in a 26-strong team to compete at the Brisbane Global Rugby Tens.
Just back from a season in Japan, the 53-test veteran will join 2015 Rugby World Cup hero Nehe Milner-Skudder and All Blacks end of year tour members Vaea Fifita and Jordie Barrett for the two day tournament on February 11 and 12.
Jane said he hadn't hesitated when Hurricanes head coach Chris Boyd sounded him out about playing at the Tens.
"Boydy asked me when I was in Japan and I said I was keen to have a run around. I've never played it before so I don't really know what to expect but it will be a bit of fun," Jane said. "I guess most teams are looking at it that way, go over there and enjoy some good weather and play some good footy."
Jane will be part of a star studded Hurricanes back division in Brisbane with Milner-Skudder, Barrett, Maori All Blacks Matt Proctor and Otere Black, as well as former Warriors NRL rugby league star Ngani Laumape among the options.
In the forwards Fifita is joined by mobile front rowers Reggie Goodes, Loni Uhila, and Ricky Riccitelli, while Brad Shields is part of an exciting mix of loose forwards.
Hurricanes coach Chris Boyd said the tournament was an exciting addition to the team's Investec Super Rugby preseason campaign.
"It's something different and I know our guys are really looking forward to getting over to Brisbane and getting stuck in," he said. "I'm sure there will be some entertaining rugby played by all the teams and with a little extra space it should be pretty attractive for the spectators."
Boyd said the defending Investec Super Rugby champions were looking forward to meeting some of the local rugby community at the Sunnybank Rugby Club in Brisbane and hopefully helping to promote the game of rugby union.
Duco Australia chief executive Rachael Carroll said it was great to see the New Zealand squads stacked full of elite talent.
"The squads are a combination of the finest rugby players of the current generation and some of the most exciting stars of the future."
