As the first All Blacks squad for the 2024 was announced, seven Hurricanes have been named in Head Coach Scott Robertson’s team to take on England and Fiji as the July international window begins.
Following strong 2024 DHL Super Rugby Pacific campaigns, Billy Proctor and Pasilio Tosi earn their maiden call ups to the National Team, as well as recalls for TJ Perenara and Asafo Aumua.
On his return from Japan. Ardie Savea has been named as one of two Vice-Captains, alongside Jordie Barrett.
Hurricanes Head Coach Clark Laidlaw said it was pleasing to see Hurricanes players getting opportunities at the next level.
“Our goal as coaches is to help grow people to be their best, both on and off the field and the opportunity for these young men to be able to go and represent their country is something we’re really proud of.”
Laidlaw was complimentary of the work TJ Perenara and Asafo Aumua had done to earn themselves recalls to the side.
“TJ has had a fantastic season for us. He worked away diligently for 18 months to come back from his injury and the same goes with Asafo. His form this season pre and post injury was fantastic, and to see the two of them back in the squad is really pleasing.”
On the new players called into the side, Laidlaw said.
“Pasi was the only player to play every game for us this season and his game grew and grew as the season wore on. Billy Proctor is a really impressive player, so to see him named into the squad is fantastic.”
Full-back Ruben Love has been named as injury cover, while Peter Lakai also joins the side while they prepare for the tests against England.
