The Hurricanes have today confirmed that Wellington’s Xavier Numia has recommitted to the Hurricanes Super Rugby Club through 2025.
Numia said he was thrilled to recommit to the Hurricanes for the next two seasons.
“It’s really exciting for me to be recommitting to the Canes. This is the team I watched growing up, and it was always a dream of mine to be here, so I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity to re-sign for another 2 years and be here in Wellington with my family.
"I want to keep focussing on developing my scrummaging and just reinforcing that you can’t put a prop in one box, the game is changing and I’m excited to see where it leads,” said Numia.
The 24-year-old loosehead prop has gone from strength to strength since bursting onto the scene in 2019 when he made his Super Rugby debut against the Waratahs in Sydney.
He has since made 42 appearances for the Hurricanes and been a stable force in the Hurricanes 2023 forward pack, starting seven of eight matches for the 2023 DHL Super Rugby season, missing just one match due to injury.
A former New Zealand Schools and Under-20 representative, Numia was earmarked for success early on.
Hurricanes Assistant Coach, Chris Gibbes, said that although Numia is having a great 2023 season, the young forward’s best years are still ahead of him.
“Xavier has worked hard on his game over the past few seasons, and he is starting the see the benefit of this in his performances.
“He is a young man with his best years ahead of him, so for the Club, his commitment to being part of what we are building here is exciting,” said Gibbes.
